Leaving the huge crowd of people behind Jesus told the disciples to go to the other side of
the lake. Then Jesus got in the boat and the disciples followed him.

All of a sudden a huge storm came on the lake and the waves were so
big they came in the boat. The disciples were really afraid and thought they were going to
drown. They quickly woke up Jesus saying “Save us we are going to drown, don’t you care”
Jesus stood up and rebuked the wind and said to the waves be still. Everything was
completely still. Then Jesus told the disciples “Are you still afraid, have you no faith”
The disciples were amazed. They said “Who is this? “ The wind and the waves obey Him.

Taken from scripture verses Mark 4:35-41

Teaching thought – The disciples did not really know Jesus they had just started to follow
him. They did not realize who Jesus was and they did not realize the power he had.
Jesus told the disciples when they first got in the boat to go to the other side. Jesus was
telling then that they would be safe.

We need to learn to trust God. Trusting God comes from having a relationship with him
(relationship means to listen to his words and believe in Him)
God says He will never leave us or forsake us. We have to believe that because God always
tells the truth.

Scripture verse- I will never leave you or forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

Craft
Have the children make a toy boat.
Supplies-- tooth picks, play dough or clay and cut out triangles out of construction paper for
the sail, a tub of water. Tape the middle part of the toothpick to the sail and put a small piece
of play dough at the bottom of the toothpick.  Children can put there boats in the water and
then pretend that a storm is coming up and make waves in the water. It would probably be
wise to have to boats in the water at a time, or it could get very wet. Have fun!

Game
Have each child tell about a time when they were really scared. Then have the other children
say the scripture verse. I will never leave you or forsake you.
