| JESUS FEEDS 5000 by Kim Gallovich Jesus took his disciples and went to a town called Bethsaida. The people heard where they were going and followed them. Jesus welcomed the people and spoke to them about the kingdom of God; he also healed all the people that needed healing. It was getting late in the afternoon and the 12 disciples came to Jesus and said “Send the people away for they need food and a place to sleep and there is nothing for them here”. Jesus told the disciples “Give them something to eat”. The disciples saw that they only had five loaves of bread and two fishes. They could not understand how this could feed 5000 people. Jesus told the disciples to have the people sit down. He took the loaves of bread and the fishes and looked up to heaven and gave thanks and broke the bread. The disciples took the food and give it to the people. They ate and were full. Then the disciples picked up 12 basketfuls that were left over. Scripture reading from Luke 9:10-17 Teaching Thought -- Jesus looked to his Father in Heaven and thanked him, he knew that God would provide enough food to feed the people. We too can look to Jesus and know that he will provide for us .He gives us everything we need when we obey Him and follow him and we even have enough left over to share with others. Prayer—Father God we thank you for all you give us. We thank you for helping us so we can help others. Memory verse---- Jesus said “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35 This is a great bible story to act out with the children. You will need some baskets and crackers or bread and whale crackers or make some fish. Have some of the children be the crowd and some be the disciples and have someone be Jesus. After Jesus gives thanks for the food put more crackers or bread in the basket. Then have the disciples pass it out. |
